Apple Screen Time

In the freshly released iOS 12 update for all iPhones and iPads, Apple has introduced a new feature called “Screen Time“. The feature allows users to interactively manage notifications and app usage.

The feature allows users to set time limits on various applications and categorizes them by either being “Social Networking” or “Productivity” Applications. iPhone users can set a time limit on Social Media apps and once they have reached the set time, the application will close and they will receive an alert that they have spent too much time on the application.

At the end of each week, a detailed report is formulated and the user is able to see how much time they spent on social media. Apple wants to better personalize the iPhone, and let users manage how they spend their time on their phone. The new feature has options such as “Downtime” while this option is active alerts will be silenced and users will not be able to see notifications from apps such as FaceBook or Instagram, which can cause disruptions and decrease productivity.

Apple hopes to give users the freedom to limit their addicting phone usage. It is estimated that 210 million people are suffering from Internet and Social Media addictions. It was found that teens who spend 5 or more hours on social media are likely to show depressive symptoms.

Apple has expanded the #ShotoniPhone campaign to not only social media but large billboards in metropolitan cities, bus stops, train stations, and high-rise buildings.  The campaign was created in 2015 to introduce the new iPhone 6 with an improved camera and larger display and has since continued to showcase photos from each new iPhone release.     Since Apple has introduced 4K video recording the hashtag now includes videos. The company fosters a connection with its users even in 2018, three years after the creation of the campaign. The latest #ShotoniPhone post on Apple’s Instagram is 1 day old.

Apple’s campaign has emphasized users that they do not need to be professionals to shoot a beautiful photo.  The company successfully utilized the #ShotoniPhone strategy to showcase the capabilities of their technology and reveal to their loyal fanbase. The company has large billboards in cities like; Paris, London, New York City, and Las Vegas. The photos featured are taken by iPhone users and the people are credited. The Rise of the Stinger

In the summer of 2018, Kia Motors has unveiled their latest sports sedan, the Stinger GT! The Stinger is a Gran Turismo four door sports sedan which is meant to envision a sense of luxury performance.  The Stinger is packed with a 365 horsepower twin-turbo motor under the hood. The car has been showcased on the British television show “The Grand Tour” featuring Jeremy Clarkson. The Stinger has also been exposed on the magazine Gentleman’s Quarterly (GQ).

Kia has endeavored in using Augmented Reality as a way of virtually introducing the car to the public. Kia has formed a sponsorship with FaceBook Messenger which users can message Kia Motors on FaceBook and have the option to “summon” the Kia Stinger in their own driveway. The Messenger application not only utilizes Augmented Reality but Artificial Intelligence as well. Kia has a robot assistant called “Kian” through Messenger which can help you contact and locate the nearest dealership. The assistant can also take questions such as “Which car is equipped with….?”. The A.I assistant can disclose pricing information as well as show a gallery of photos.

Through the use of Social Media, Kia has attempted in simplifying the mobile shopping experience.

Kian is able to inform potential customers of the specifications of the vehicle they are interested in. The A.I bot can reveal details such as horsepower, warranty information, features, color choice. Kia states that their bot has aided in the selling of 22,000 Kia Niros’.

In my perspective, I believe that Kia has done a fantastic job at introducing their breakthrough design to the public through Messenger using Augmented Reality. When people think of Kia they don’t expect anything other than an affordable reliable car. The Stinger GT is an attempt to shift people’s perception that they are more than an ordinary car brand. The Stinger features four trim levels; Base, Premium, GT, GT1 and top trim GT., The Premium is priced around $39,000, while the GT2 trim which is the most exclusive, comes in at around $55,000 when optioned with All-wheel-drive.
